Food, Fun, and Finds at the WABA Home Show

Wait, food… at the home show? That’s right, the WABA Home Show, presented by Professional Landscape Services, is introducing a cooking stage featuring Chef Mike Castaneda (named one of the Top 10 cooks in America by the Food Network). Chef Mike will be whipping up great flavors all weekend long, including a kid-inspired treat on Sunday for Kids’ Day at the show! It’s a great chance to see a pro in action and get inspired for your own kitchen.
Beyond the hundreds of home improvement experts and thousands of ideas, the all-new Market Place emerges. Featuring local artisans and crafters selling unique goods you’ll be able to take home from the show, this shopper’s oasis is sure to please. Look for home decor, gifts, and local goods while supporting small businesses.
Friday & Saturday boast a robust lineup of educational seminars headlined by pro organizer Rachel Murphy of Simplify My Life! She’ll help you turn clutter into calm with chats at 1:30 PM & 5:30 PM each day. Other learning opportunities throughout the day include experts on landscaping , home design , smart technology & more.
Have kids with you? No problem, head to the show on Sunday for Kids Day! Featuring education, entertainment, and giveaways from Field Station Dinosaurs (11 AM – 1 PM), Tanganyika Wildlife Park (2:30 PM - 4:30 PM), Tubby the mascot, face-painting, and balloon animals.
Whether you are planning a project or just looking for something different to do downtown this weekend, it’s worth a stop. You might even win one of the great prize giveaways including a weekend getaway at Diamond Springs Ranch! You can even save a few bucks on your ticket before you head out the door
COMMUNITY
This Monday Cash Mob at The James & Rye
Alright Wichita, time to help a local business. Join me for my first of many cash mobs planned for the city. Let’s pay it forward for the community.
See you this Monday, January 26 from 4pm to 6:30pm at The James & Rye in downtown Wichita at 917 E. Douglas Ave.
What is a cash mob?
A cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business to make purchases. The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community.
What’s the plan?
It’s simple. I’ve given The James & Rye a heads up that we are coming and that eventually led to a planning meeting to ensure everything is organized just in case the bar gets pretty busy.
For starters, there will be a limited cocktail menu with beers available as well. This will help with the flow and take the burden off the bartenders from having to spend more time making some of the more time intensive cocktails the bar is known for. The pared-down menu was put together by Una Vida Tequila and Hi-Post Vodka.
Better yet, I’ll help cover the first 50 or so drinks just to kind of lead by example and put my money where my mouth is. All I ask is that you take care of the bartenders and pay it forward that way. This is my way of saying thank you to those who come and putting my money where my mouth is to support these businesses.
DATE CHANGE
Snow Glow this weekend
Days when people can sled in Wichita are few and far between, but one event hopes to make it possible in the off-chance there are no snow days.
Snow Glow is an event put on by Mid-America All-Indian Museum, Wichita Park & Recreation, the City of Wichita and Wichita Snow Bros..
The event has been pushed to Saturday, January 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mid-America All Indian Museum at 650 N. Seneca.
But be on the lookout as the weather this weekend could push it to the 31st.
