THIS WEEKEND
The Mediterranean Festival returns this weekend
“Nearly a century ago, the founders of our church came to America, bringing with them their faith, traditions, and family recipes. For generations, these recipes have been passed down through the families of our parish, and for nearly 95 years, we have been sharing these treasured culinary traditions with our local community. Try authentic foods from the countries where our faith and heritage are rooted, including Lebanon, Syria, and Greece.”
If you’ve never been before, the St. Mary Orthodox Christian Church Mediterranean Festival is back on Saturday, May 9 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
HOLIDAY
Mother’s Day Buffet Options
Mother’s Day is coming up and if you’re looking for a brunch or buffets around town, look no further!
It’s strongly recommended you call in and make a reservation ahead of Mother’s Day as many restaurants will be busy.
NOW OPEN
Thai Kitchen & Sushi
A new restaurant has opened in the former Chopstix space at 1615 E. 61st St. N in Park City. Thai Kitchen & Sushi keeps the Asian flavors going in the Wichita suburb.
The menu features touches of Laos, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine as well.
LOCAL SPOTLIGHT
Jive Turkey
As I continue down my quest to check out more and more food trucks this summer, I had to revisit Jive Turkey BBQ. The mobile trailer has been around for years and this past year alone, I’ve seen them at multiple events and had to make a stop.
I caught Jive Turkey while they were at Open Streets ICT. There was a steady line of customers waiting and it pained me only because the smell of BBQ was so intense and making me hungry.
You’ll easily spot Jive Turkey at events if you see someone walking around with big ginormous turkey legs. I wasn’t feeling turkey legs and asked for a couple of suggestions and immediately went with those.
COMING SOON
Lao New Year
One of the biggest cultural events of the year is comingsoon. The Lao New Year is set for May 22-24.
It always takes place Memorial Day Weekend at the Lao Buddhist Associates of Wichita at 2550 S. Greenwich.
Those who have been before know just how big of an event it is. The three-day event runs from Friday, May 22, to Sunday, May 24. It’s one of the biggest cultural celebrations you’ll find in Wichita.
