UPCOMING
Big Week of Food Events

If you’re looking to experience some culture through food, this is the weekend to do it. Three big events headline the list of things to do over Memorial Day weekend with at least two of those being wildly successful over the years.

Oh… and please pray for good weather!

Lao New Year Festival
May 23-25 at the Lao Buddhist Associate of Kansas
2550 S. Greenwich Road

This three-day festival packs the temple on south Greenwich Road. It’s $5 to enter.

You can expect cultural performances, vendors, booths, live music, dancing, a pageant, and all the Lao food you can handle from tons of vendors.

Wichita Asian Night Market
May 24 at Equity Bank Park: 6pm - 11pm
275 S. McLean Blvd

What started in 2022 has become one of the go-to annual events in Wichita. Literally thousands of people fill the park. General admission is $10 and early bird entry at 5pm is $22.

65+ vendors with many food vendors who are rarely out. This is your chance to get your hands on food from multiple ethnicities spanning Asia.

Brunchin’ In Nomar
May 25 at Empower
103 E. 21st St.

Spent your Sunday morning at Empower for a fun and vibrant brunch experience. This first-ever patio pop-up brings local flavors and great vibes from Adelita’s Coffee Co and El Gusto.

This event is free to attend.

COMMUNITY
Giving Back

Many people probably heard about the lunch benefit at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse where all funds went back to help one of the chefs, Fred Winter, who is battling cancer.

The restaurant was packed, and the community definitely showed up.

What some people may not know is the chefs who worked that afternoon, donated their tips to help their colleagues in need.

It was a beautiful gesture and one that deserves a round of applause.

WEEKLY MINI FEATURE
MOXI Junction

319 S. Park Ave, Maize, KS

Who should we feature in next week’s mini-feature? Readers decide who we promote for free in the newsletter

This week’s Mini-Feature was suggested by Danielle Toothman.

I love businesses that operate with a purpose to better our community, which is why I revisited MOXI Junction. They are a coffee shop, art gallery and bakery that also serves a strong mission to give those with special needs a chance to make it in the workplace. The name of the business is an abbreviation for Moms of Exceptional Individuals (MOXI). It’s owned by mothers of special needs children and adults who also serve as employees.

Located at 319 S. Park Ave in Maize, KS, it’s the perfect little stop if you’re dropping the kids off at one of the Maize schools or need a cup of joe while you’re in northwest Wichita or Maize.

Along with the mission, part of the charm aside from their wonderful mission is the establishment itself. It’s bright and colorful inside, with a College Hill vibe.

This is one business definitely worth anybody’s support.

Hours are Monday through Friday 6:30am to 4pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm.
