The Eddytorial Dining Digest: 2/17/25
Welcome to the first dining digest of the Eddytorial. A weekly Monday newsletter completed dedicated to the local dining scene.

Happy Dining Wichita!
You may be wondering. What am I doing getting The Eddytorial on a Monday? Well, I’ve decided to break out the newsletter where Monday will be the special Monday dining digest and Thursday will be all the same old stuff you can expect like live music calendar, weekend events, news and more.
And what a better day to do it. 14 years ago ON THIS VERY DAY, Wichita By E.B. was started. So why not create what could be the best newsletter focused on the food scene to show up in your inbox every Monday?
In today’s email:
Goodbye China Star: The lights are about to go out
Mini-Feature: Sport Burger
Giveaway: Enter to win tickets to Death By Chocolate
FEATURE STORY
Goodbye to China Star Super Buffet

One of the handful of Chinese buffet restaurants in Wichita will be closing. The last day for China Star Super Buffet at 5825 W. Central Avenue will be Friday, February 28.
The news was confirmed this weekend by restaurant staff. It appears that retirement is calling the owners names after many years in the industry. (read more)
Until then, I will leave you with this gem.
WEEKLY MINI FEATURE
Sport Burger

134 N. Hillside St.
A restaurant I can’t love on enough is Sport Burger Drive-In at 134 N. Hillside.
When it comes to burgers, this is one of my TOP THREE favorites in town and one of the ICT 100 restaurants in all the years of the list in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Sport Burger delivers simple, no frills, greasy burgers at a relatively affordable price and is owned by the sweetest people in the world.
If you’ve never been, I highly recommend you check them out. It’s drive-thru and cash only.
Hours this week are Tuesday through Saturday 5pm to 8pm. If you see line, pull on in, put the car in park and scroll through social media while you wait. It’s worth it.
Who should we feature in next week’s mini-feature? Readers decide who we promote for free in the newsletter

NEWS
Crawfish Season is Back

Crawfish season has returned and the best place in town to get your hands on it is Gar Joe’s Crawfish. The catch is, it’s a food truck that typically only sells it on the weekend, mainly Saturday.
The owner travels down to Louisiana every week and brings back hundreds of pounds of crawfish back. Every weekend, his truck is set up where he offers big boils of crawfish, shrimp, crab legs, and more.
His prices are also very fair market value and better than what some people can find in the region. (read more)
