DINING
Wichita’s First Ethiopian Restaurant

Inside the King Coal Hookah Lounge at 327 N. Hillside St., you’ll find the latest hidden gem that people should put on their radar: Sara and Tedros Ethiopian and Eritrean Restaurant.

It’s the city’s only restaurant serving cuisine native to the countries of Ethiopia and Eritrea, started by a couple named Sara and Tedros who are excited to bring their food to Wichita.

COMING SOON
SK Donuts in Wichita

The growth of SK Donuts continues with another new location for the Wichita area.

With locations in Haysville, Park City, Maize, and a recent Wichita location at 7020 W. Central Ave., another Wichita store is coming. SK Donuts quick expansion will hit Wichita again as they intend to take over the former NAS Kitchen space that closed last year at 1920 W. 21st St.

OPEN TODAY
Newk’s Eatery opens today

A new fast-casual restaurant chain called Newk’s Eatery is opening Monday, December 8, at 10310 E. 13th St. N. at The Waterfront.

Based out of Mississippi, the new restaurant specializes in sandwiches, salads, pizza, and soups.

DINNER IDEA
The Roasted Duck at KimSon

With the holiday season, perhaps you want to spice things up and add something different besides turkey and ham. Why not roasted duck? Insert KimSon Asian Market. The Asian grocery store at 960 E. Pawnee now has this excellent addition to your holidays available to order.

All of their roasted ducks are marinated for 24 hours before roasting and are priced at $37.99 for a whole duck. That’s the price to get the duck whole or cut up to save you some time.

This has become an annual tradition for my family over Thanksgiving. Something that has saved us a considerable amount of time and a dish our family loves to add to the holiday spread.

Orders can be placed by calling KimSon at 316-262-5235. With the time it takes to prepare, you'll want to give them as much notice as possible. Be aware, they do sell out as well.

HIDDEN GEMS
Sazon Mexican Restaurant

2624 E. 21st St. N.

It’s been around six years since I last stepped foot inside Sazon Mexican Restaurant. I believe it was when they first opened.

While going through my list of restaurants, I figured it was time to finally revisit the east side Mexican restaurant. I stopped by on a Saturday, as I heard they have different specials and dishes on that day.

As I was seated, I was handed two menus. Their regular menu and another featuring the weekend specials that included picaditas veracruzanas, carne en su jugo, tacos ahogados cochinita pibil, and huevos divorciados.
