DINING
New steakhouse open in Derby

3201 N Rock Rd, Derby, KS

After years of waiting, the city of Derby has a steakhouse to call it’s own with the arrival of Morgan’s Steakhouse.

The restaurant recently opened at 3201 N. Rock Road in front of Rock Regional Hospital.

DINING
The Big Biscuit opens first of four locations

2330 N. Maize Road

And just like that, The Big Biscuit has opened in northwest Wichita at 2330 N. Maize Road.

The chain out of Kansas City will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, December 17, but is currently open to the public ahead of their big day where there will be giveaways and a ribbon cutting.

It’s the first of what will lead to multiple locations in the Wichita area. Be on the look out as The Big Biscuit takes over two former Jimmy’s Egg spaces at 106 S. Hydraulic and 7777 E. 21st St. Then it will be Derby’s turn when another location opens at 1906 N. Rock Road. Until then, let’s see what’s in store for the first one in Wichita.

DINING
Davito’s brings American and Mexican cuisine to south Wichita

2131 S. Broadway

It’s opening week for Davito’s Kitchen & Bakery who has taken over the space at 2131 S. Broadway that many older people in Wichita will remember as the home of Mike’s Steak House.

DINING
A new Halal restaurant now open

602 N. West Street

One of the newer restaurants to open in Wichita is Blazin Halal Food.

It took over the former Le Monde space, which closed after 30 years in business.

Blazin Halal Food is a fast-casual restaurant serving healthy, fast halal dishes, meaning no pork, alcohol-free, and meat coming from animals that were treated ethically and humanely.

The menu features wraps, sandwiches, salads, and platters.

CLOSING
The Breadbasket in Newton

219 N. Main, Newton

Unable to find a new buyer, it looks like it will be the end of the road for The Breadbasket in Newton, KS. The longtime German restaurant will close at the end of December.

CHRISTMAS IDEA
The Roasted Duck at KimSon

With the holiday season, perhaps you want to spice things up and add something different besides turkey and ham. Why not roasted duck? Insert KimSon Asian Market. The Asian grocery store at 960 E. Pawnee now has this excellent addition to your holidays available to order.

All of their roasted ducks are marinated for 24 hours before roasting and are priced at $37.99 for a whole duck. That’s the price to get the duck whole or cut up to save you some time.

This has become an annual tradition for my family over Thanksgiving and we may just do this for Christmas as well.

Orders can be placed by calling KimSon at 316-262-5235. With the time it takes to prepare, you'll want to give them as much notice as possible. Be aware, they do sell out as well.
