FEATURE STORY
Sliders Make Their Return to Wichita

Photo Credit: Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum
As many people know by now, Smalls Sliders opened this week at 1370 N. Greenwich Road. It marks the return of a big name slider business opening in Wichita.
The city has seen some smaller local places come and go like Slider Shak and Wimpy’s Burgers (who remembers those places?).
Nobody knows why Wichita hasn’t had a good slider restaurant make it. In a city full of burgers, it makes sense for a slider place to thrive in Wichita.
Now is a great time, though, to pay some homage to the original sliders… White Castle who started in Wichita, KS back in 1921. The original store stood at the northwest corner of First and Main Street in downtown Wichita. That building is no longer there.
Back then, the sliders sold for just 5 cents. 17 years later, in 1938, White Castle left Wichita and that was the last time the restaurant had a storefront in the city it started in.

LOCAL SHOUTOUT
Soup Group

Shout out to Angela Guest, her team of volunteers and her Soup Group.
I saw them set up by Wave with a long line of people one Wednesday afternoon.
Guest and her team give free meals to the community every Wednesday and I’m told have been doing it for four years. I feel like I have a pretty good pulse on what’s going on in the city and this was the first time I’ve heard of them.
Looking online, I saw nothing about this and figured she deserves her props.
Some people don’t like what they see in the community and go online to complain. Some people take matters into their own hands. Props to Angela.
RUMOR MILL
Blackbird Studio 2.0 in Wichita?

Major rumor mill alert ahead.
Legendary sound engineer John McBride, who is married to Martina McBride, founded one of the world’s most successful and renowned recording complexes in Nashville… Blackbird Studio.
Rumor is he’s been buying up property in downtown Wichita to open another state-of-the-art production facility. This could be Wichita's own version of Blackbird Studio drawing more musical acts to come to Wichita to produce, create music, or whatever it may be.
McBride is no stranger to Wichita. He grew up in this city and has many ties to the ICT. His wife, Martina, is also from Kansas, so there are many reasons why this could be true. Nothing is confirmed currently, but rumors have a lot of smoke behind them.
It makes sense given the affordability in Wichita and being centrally located in the country for musicians from all over to travel here.
This could be a massive win for the city.
And after a recent Facebook post of this, the comments came in fairly hot with more potential information.
